Student from Zhytomyr received scholarship from New Products Group to study at prestigious school of economics

The winner of the competition for the nominal scholarship from New Products Group was selected to study at the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE).

21-year-old Mykola Shishov, a graduate of the Bachelor’s program at the Ivan Franko Lviv National University, won the opportunity to study for free at the KSE and complete a Master’s program in economic analysis.

Mykola was born in the city of Starokonstantinov, Khmelnitsky region, and finished school in Zhytomyr. In 2018 he graduated with honours from the Ivan Franko Lviv National University, specializing in International Economics. Already in his second year, as part of the student exchange program, the young man studied for six months at the Warsaw School of Economics, and after obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in Lviv, he dreamed of continuing his education at the prestigious Kyiv School of Economics, one of the country’s best educational institutions, which trains economists in accordance with modern international standards. New Products Group will help fulfill the dream of the talented student.

“Establishing a nominal scholarship to help the new generation of Ukrainians receive fundamental education in the leading economic educational institution is the result of New Products Group’s desire to support the talented youth of Ukraine and contribute to building a modern and strong domestic economy, the development of which is being hampered by the shortage of qualified specialists with good education and progressive views. We are convinced that young people like our scholarship recipient will change the situation,” says Elena Selutina, PR Director of New Products Group.

The selection process for the scholarship lasted several months, as the Kyiv School of Economics has high demands for its students: a candidate for admission to KSE must demonstrate excellent knowledge not only of economics and mathematics, but also English, because the training is conducted in that language.

By creating the scholarship, New Products Group set a goal of helping a person from the Zhashkiv region, where the Group’s production facilities are located, get a prestigious education, and in that way support local youth. However, because of the high requirements for students of the Kyiv School of Economics, the organizers of the contest were forced to expand the geography of the search. The candidate for admission to KSE must demonstrate excellent knowledge not only of economics and mathematics, but also of the language of instruction – English. Unfortunately, it was not possible to find candidates who possess such a set of skills neither among Bachelor’s graduates from the Zhashkiv region, nor among the youth of the entire Cherkasy region. So the competition became all-Ukrainian, and the reward went to the young man from the Zhytomyr region.

One of the teachers at the Kyiv School of Economics, Professor Vladimir Vakhitov, said that according to the results of the KSE entrance exam, Mykola Shishov was among the top ten students of the course. Therefore, the nominal scholarship from New Products, which will cover the full tuition cost for the 2018/2019 academic year, as well as the cost of living in Kyiv for that period (hostel and a monthly allowance), went to a really worthy candidate.

“I am very grateful to New Products Group for the opportunity to study in such a strong school of economics! I am struck by the atmosphere that is present here. It feels incredible to be among like-minded people and learn from the best economists in the country!”, said Mykola Shishov about his first impressions of the education process.

In 20 years, the Kyiv School of Economics, which started as a Master’s program at the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, and then became an independent educational institution, trained more than 700 economists. The graduates of the school occupy key positions not only in the National Bank of Ukraine, but also at Google, the International Labour Organization, the World Bank, Bank of America, and other large organizations and companies. And many graduates work abroad on the basis of the education they received at the Kyiv School of Economics – that is, they did not study in Western universities. And that fully proves the high level of education provided by KSE.

While congratulating Mykola on winning the scholarship, the representatives of New Products Group noted that they would be happy if, after receiving his diploma, he expressed desire to work for the Group.
